Deb Moyer is an oil painter and piano teacher from West Hartford, CT who maintains an art studio and gallery at the Farmington Valley Arts Center in Avon. Her vibrant paintings of flowers, animals and landscapes capture the essence of the natural world, giving expression to the spiritual unity of all things.
Deb enjoys teaching mindful creativity workshops and leading retreats using the arts of meditation, painting, photography, poetry, floral design and music. She also works as a piano teacher in her home music studio in west Hartford.
For the past twenty years, Deb has been dedicated to her calling as a mother of two boys. She and her family live in West Hartford, CT next to a nature preserve. They also own a pharmaceutical contract laboratory, Pine Lakes Laboratory in Bristol, CT. She enjoys gardening, traveling, taking adventures with their two dogs, birding, hiking, swimming and skiing in her free time. Deb practices Pilates and mindfulness.
In her early career, Deb was an award-winning newspaper editor and broadcast journalist working in Mexico City, Pennsylvania, Idaho and Washington, DC. Later she served as an ordained minister in the United Church of Christ, leading two congregations as senior minister, then serving as an interim pastor in eastern Pennsylvania and Connecticut.
She began oil painting in 2008, and has studied art at the West Hartford Art League with Brian Colbath, Paul Batch, and the late Deb Wadsworth with whom she shared a studio in Simsbury. She has participated in multiple juried art shows and galleries in the greater Hartford area. She also displayed her art at Princeton Seminary during a women’s clergy conference.

Debbie Fetterman Moyer grew up in Boyertown, Pennsylvania and currently lives in West Hartford, CT. Her education includes a B.A. in English from the College of William and Mary in Williamsburg, VA. and a Master’s of Divinity from Lancaster Theological Seminary in Lancaster, PA. She has a certificate in Gestalt Pastoral Care and spiritual direction. She also has a certificate from the Women’s Leadership Institute at the former Hartford Theological Seminary.
“I see the beauty and wonder of nature every day! I hope my contemplative paintings capture the essence of the creation, giving expression to the spiritual unity of all things. Perhaps, I can inspire others to feel a sense of awe so they will care more about our environment and feel their connection to the creator.”

My Story
During the tail end of the Pandemic in 2021, I opened my art studio on the second floor of the Farmington Valley Arts Center in Avon in a renovated explosives factory. Two walls of windows overlooking the trees make it feel like a charming treehouse. Surrounded by bird song and occasional visits from bears, I find my studio to be a peaceful sanctuary for painting. After entering the purple door, you will see a gallery of my original work and find prints and cards for sale as well. Email me to schedule a visit at ArtSpirit@Debmoyerart.com.

The studio has become my painting retreat where I have my easel and oils set up, and I use photos from my outdoor adventures as inspiration for my paintings. I also have several extra easels and other arts supplies to use for lessons, workshops and classes. A large antique wooden table is set up for art projects, conversation and meals. It also makes a great computer desk! I feel it is my calling to share my art with others, so I have paintings in various indoor and outdoor shows and galleries throughout the year. Come spend some time contemplating my art. I hope it will give you a sense of peace and renewed hope.

When I’m not painting…
My dogs and I enjoy hiking local trails especially along the Farmington River. My husband and I spend a lot of time birding gardening, and doing things with our teenagers. Weekday afternoons I teach piano lessons to adults and children. It is a great joy to see them develop expertise in music. I am so proud of all my students as they learn to play. Its so wonderful to learn of their many musical adventures and performances in their schools and colleges! I try to create safe spaces for people to create art and play music. I believe that our creative pursuits in life bring joy, a deeper sense of peace, and greater meaning to our days.
